According to Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education, below are the required skills and abilities for HSK 2 learners.
・Verbal communication abilities: Possesses basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. Can engage in short communication on relatively familiar topics and accomplish simple social interactions.
・Topics and tasks: Topics include basic social interactions, family life, study schedules, shopping, dining, personal feelings, etc. Can complete communicative tasks related to these topics, such as ordering food and communicating preferences at a Chinese restaurant with friends; identifying and filling in information on enrollment forms.
・Quantitative criteria: 468 syllables (199 newly added), 600 characters (300 newly added), 1272 words (772 newly added), 129 grammar points (81 newly added).
Able to understand short dialogues (within 150 characters) primarily involving Level 2 topic tasks, consisting mainly of single sentences or containing a few simple compound sentences, with dialogues or speeches pronounced clearly, with clear voice and a moderately slow pace (not less than 140 characters per minute). Can comprehend basic information with the assistance of gestures, facial expressions, etc.
Able to master the syllables indicated for Level 2, with pronunciation generally correct. Can use vocabulary and grammar relevant to this level to accomplish related topic expressions and communicative tasks. Possesses basic oral expression ability, capable of short questioning, stating, and engaging in social conversations using simple sentences.
Able to accurately recognize the syllables, characters, and words involved in Level 2 language quantitative indicators. With the help of pinyin, illustrations, dictionaries, etc., can read language materials (within 200 characters) related to Level 2 topic tasks and within the grammatical scope of this level. Reading speed should not be less than 100 characters per minute. Can extract specific target information from descriptive and informative language materials, and basically understand general notices, electronic messages, etc.
Able to master 200 characters from the elementary handwritten character chart. Has a good understanding of stroke order and writing rules for commonly used punctuation marks. Can copy characters relatively accurately at a speed of no less than 15 characters per minute. Possesses preliminary written expression ability, able to use simple sentences to introduce basic information closely related to personal life or study within a specified time, with a word count of no less than 100 characters.

以下是《國際中文教育中文水準等級標準》(以下簡稱《標準》)要求HSK 2學習者的語言能力:
・言語交際能力:具備基本的聽、說、讀、寫能力。能夠就較熟悉的話題進行簡短的交流,完成簡單的社會交際。
・話題任務內容:話題涉及基本社交、家庭生活、學習安排、購物、用餐、個人感受等。能夠完成與之相關的交際任務,例如:能夠和朋友在中餐館點餐並交流喜好;能夠辨識、填寫入學表格中的資訊。
・語言量化指標:音節468個(新增199),漢字600個(新增300),詞語1272個(新增772),語法點129個(新增81)。
聽
能夠聽懂涉及二級話題務內容、以單句為主或包含少量簡單複句的對話或一般性講話(150字以內),對話或講話發音標準、語音清晰、語速較慢(不低於140字/分鐘)。能夠通過手勢、表情等輔助手段理解基本資訊。
說
能夠掌握二級語言量化指標的音節,發音基本正確。能夠使用本級所涉及的詞彙和語法,完成相關的話題表達和交際任務。具備基本的口頭表達能力,能夠以簡單句進行簡短的問答、陳述以及社交性談話。
讀
能夠准確認讀二級語言量化指標涉及的音節、漢字和詞彙。能夠借助拼音、括圖、學習詞典等,讀懂涉及本級話題任務內容的、語法不超出本級範圍的簡短語言材料(200字以內),閱讀速度不低於100字/分鐘。能夠從介紹性、敘述性等語言材料中獲取具體的目標資訊,基本讀懂一般的通知、電子消息等。
寫
能夠掌握初等手寫漢字表中的漢字200個。能夠較好地掌握漢字筆劃和筆順的書寫規則以及常見標點符號的用法。能夠較為正確地抄寫漢字,速度不低於15字/分鐘。具備初步的書面表達能力,能夠使用簡單的句子,在規定時間內,介紹與個人生活或學習等密切相關的基本資訊,字數不低於100字。
