All About The Year Of The Dog

Happy Lunar New Year! It's the Year of the Dog. Find out about the dog zodiac personality type, and what to expect this year.

Another Lunar New Year is upon us, and this year is the Year of The Dog! It’s a much more approachable creature in the Chinese Zodiac than say, the dragon.

The dog is the 11th animal to cross the finish line of the great race, according to Chinese legend. She was the second-to-last animal to finish, in front of the pig. Some versions of the legend say that even though the dog was fleet-footed and a strong swimmer, she got distracted by playing in the water, which is why she almost came in last.

Dog Personality

For those who are born in the year of the dog, they are said to be faithful, playful, honest, caring stubborn, and prone to worry. They are most compatible with horses and tigers, and enemies with roosters (people born in the year before them.)

Dog Years

Are you born on the Year of the Dog? Check the following years: 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, 1934. If your birthday falls in January or February of these years, you may want to check the specific date Chinese New Year was that year.

Year Of The Dog Commercial Merchandise

Seeing as China is a large consumer market, many global companies capitalize on this by producing zodiac themed merchandise every year. For example, Starbucks (known as "星巴克" in Chinese) produces a line of mugs and drinkware every year, as seen in the image up top. Williams-Sonoma also made a line of cupcakes.
